ISLAMIC, Anatolia & al-Jazira (Post-Seljuk). Salduqids. 'Izz al-Din Saltuq, AH 523-563 / AD 1129-1168. Fals (Bronze, 18 mm, 2.00 g), without mint, possibly struck in Dvin (Armenia), without date, possibly AH 547-AD 555 / 1153-1160. 'Izz al-Din' (in Arabic) within inner circle. Rev. Large cross in circle; in outer margin, pellets. Album 1890A. Zeno-30762. Of the highest rarity. Light cleaning scratches, otherwise, fine.

A. Akopyan suggests that this type was minted at Dvin in Armenia, which was under Salduqid control circa 1153-1160. The reverse of this issue supports this theory by depicting a cross that bears a striking resemblance to the famous medieval Armenian cross, which is often shown on Khachkars, memorial steles.
